East Tennessee Public Television

Few things capture a child’s imagination like a good book and creating stories can encourage children to use their imagination. East Tennessee Public Television teamed up with Reading Rainbow, one of the most beloved series in America’s classrooms, to promote children’s love of literature and appetite for learning by presenting the local 14th Annual Young Writers and Illustrators Contest.

Entries for the contest were accepted between February 1st and March 31st of 2008. Over 250 schools throughout East Tennessee were sent information about the contest for children in kindergarten through third grade. Nationally, 45,000 youngsters enter original stories yearly to earn great prizes. Local winners received coupons and gift certificates to area businesses that were proud recognize their effort.

East Tennessee Public Television would like to thank each student that participated as well as those parents and educators that encouraged each child to create their own story. We would also like to thank the judges that spent over four hours during two rounds of very difficult decisions on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
